Every day, on our tables, many tasty dishes are served and IGP and DOP products are increasingly required by the market.Among these, Calabria, for centuries can boastThe red onions of Tropea,famous for their sweetness and numerous beneficial properties.With an IGP denomination dating back to 2008, it is cultivated along the Tyrrhenian belt from Nicotera (VV) to Amantea (Cs), in the province of Cosenza. But its name derives from the fact that the shipments took place from the railway port of Tropea, where they arrived through traditional submarines or wagons driven by oxen. In addition to the unique taste, this type of onion has numerous health benefits of those who consume it. It is easily digestible, having also a low caloric value (20 Kcal/100 gr approximately) that favors those who have to follow a diet and does not want to give up taste.
